With limited supply and permanently growing demand, Malta’s property market has been in constant boom for more than fifty years. Prices of properties north of the Grand Harbour towns of Valletta, Sliema and Gzira are skyrocketing, and prices in practically all other localities are also continuously increasing.
Due to the limited size of the country, the property market is unlike that of any other. For several decades, property prices have shown steady increases sustained by growing demand from local and institutional and private foreign investors and even when other countries suffered substantial price drops, Malta’s real estate industry remained buoyant.
Hundreds of previously dilapidated buildings in Valletta and the three cities of Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea are attracting tremendous interest for conversions into residences and boutique hotels to meet the high demand for housing and property investments, and this trend is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.
Based on figures published by The Central Bank of Malta, in the last quarter of 2016, property prices rose by 7.24% (10.44% inflation-adjusted).
